The application to be a hemp grower is available on the Department’s website. There is a $100 application fee and a license fee if your license is granted by the Department.

2) What can be done with hemp?

Hemp has thousands of potential uses—from building materials and paper to foods, textiles, and bioplastics. A well-known derivative is cannabidiol (CBD), which many people use for perceived benefits related to pain, anxiety, and inflammation.

3) Illinois hemp updates and current status?

USDA has approved the Illinois Department of Agriculture’s (IDOA) Hemp Plan. Following approval, IDOA will pursue administrative rule changes following the JCAR process and the Illinois Administrative Procedure Act.

For the 2020 season, IDOA continued Delta-9 THC testing and its random sampling program under existing rules (not total THC/THCa testing).
